TriMet's 'improvements' are our misfortunes

Daily Vanguard, Portland State University, OR

To be sustainable or not to be sustainable? That seems to be TriMet's question.

On their Web site they state, "We're making fares easier to read, easier to use!" To me, this translates into, "We're using a lot more paper and spending a lot of money on installing new fare-machine enhancements!"

What wasted vote? A third-party vote is important

Far too often in presidential elections those who dare cast their votes for so-called "third party" candidates, those who are neither republican nor democrat but members of smaller parties such as the Libertarian, Constitutional, or Green Party, are often derided for their choice, and said to be wasting their votes on hopeless candidates.

On Oct. 28, Leroy Morley boarded a TriMet bus with his leashed dog, a 50-pound Rottweiler/Sharpei mix. The driver asked Morley if his dog was a service animal, which he, untruthfully, confirmed.

Did you cast your vote? No one cares

The Beacon, University of Portland, OR

I don't know how many of you heard, but there was a national election on Tuesday. I hope you didn't vote, because voting is a pretty un-American thing to do.

Think about it. Yes we, as Americans, love the freedoms that come with democracy. We can own guns, shoot guns, say what we want about those we don't like, protest those we don't like, face our accuser, and be allowed the privilege to pay federal income tax (that's Amendment 16, my favorite).
