Brief history of Tidepools
Tidepools Art and Literary magazine is published annually, showcasing the best work of the communities of Clallam and Jefferson counties. It includes the works of artists, photographers, poets and prose writers of the Olympic Peninsula.
Tidepools was created by the Peninsula College English and Typing classes to practice their literary and typing skills. Launched by English professor Marge Avalon in 1963, it was a small booklet of stapled-together pieces of eight-by-eleven paper. Since then the magazine has become a community tradition. Tidepools is created by the students of Peninsula College, the college's Associated Student Council and the Peninsula Daily News which publishes it. Tidepools Art and Literary Production class has been taught for the past two years by Janet Lucas, who recently received the Lisa Ede Outstanding Teaching Award.
In 2005, Tidepools won first place in the Washington community and technical colleges' Art and Literary Magazines Contest.
Entry forms for this year's Tidepools Art and Literary contest are now available at the college Bookstore, the PA library and Olympic Stationers.
