Peninsula College Pirates storm the basket in a game against Edmonds Feb. 23.

The Peninsula College Pirates ripped first place from Everett, remained undefeated at home, and gave Peninsula College the NWAACC North Division title with its overtime 90-86 victory Feb. 23 over Edmonds.

The Pirates face Treasure Valley at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb . 28 at the Toyota Center in Kennewick as one of the top seeds in the 2008 NWAACC Basketball Championships. The Pirates' game against Everett Feb.20 ended in a thrilling last-second victory for Peninsula College, giving PC fans something to talk about in arguably the most exhilarating game of the season.

The victory against Everett put the Pirates in first place. The score was tied 90-all with nine-tenths second left on the clock when Dominick Lozano sank a jump shot giving the Pirates a 2-point game-winning lead. The 92-90 victory set the Pirates record at 12-3 in league and 21-7 overall moving them to first place in the North.

The stands in the Peninsula College gym were full of Pirates' fans who watched nervously as the first-half of the game was clearly owned by Everett, which gained its biggest lead of 16 points. Everett was up 51-39, but the Pirates came out in the second half looking like a completely different team. They dominated the court scoring 21 straight points and capturing the lead.

Everett failed to score until there was 12:54 left in the game. Everett seemed rattled during the second half, but still managed to regain the lead 84-83 with 2:15 remaining. However the Pirates wouldn't stay behind for very long. Jesse Bean scored an impressive six points, including two free throw shots, giving the Pirates an 89-84 lead with 57 seconds left on the clock.

Everett wasn't ready to give up. They rallied, tying the Pirates at 90 with less than 20 seconds on the board. But a careless inbound pass from Everett would prove to be a fatal move for the visiting team giving the Pirates possession of the ball with just 6.9 seconds left.

The Pirates crossed the court with the help of Ernie Grimes who passed to Dominick Lozano who then made the game-winning shot. Pirate fans exploded from their seats roaring in celebration.
