With more than $100,000 in the ASC capital reserve account for special projects, some students would like to know why the parking situation at Peninsula College is still suffering. One example of parking space not utilized is the infamous PC south lot.
The so called "back lot" is an area close to the tennis courts and sports field where many students have taken to parking since the opening of the Science and Technology building.
The troublesome area is generally more gravel than asphalt and potholes turned ponds provide hazardous conditions for parking, especially after recent rain.
Another significant hazard is an almost total lack of lighting which makes navigating the back lot after dark a treacherous task.
Rick Ross, student services coordinator, explained that the city of Port Angeles has not yet authorized Peninsula College to provide parking in the back lot, a space the city considers to be a service road.
Ross said that college administration is aware of a parking problem and there have been efforts to address them, but the likelihood of it being paved and proper parking lines drawn depends on the city's position.
Ross believes that as further construction at PC requires more parking solutions, the situation could change, but not likely before.
