Cassella-Blackburn said, "you can use the system however you like." He mentioned that the parents and students have to decide how much they want to be involved with the system. For example he said that his son took advantage of the Running Start program.
PC student Hannah Ganzhorn was homeschooled. Her parents set up a very structured education.
Though she was taught by her mother in the lower grades, her father was responsible for her high school education.
In the fall of 2007 Ganzhorn started at PC as a part-time running Start student.
She said once she has her Associate in Applied Science degree, she is going to work as an administrative office assistant. She enjoys being in classes with her peers and collaborating with them.
Ganzhorn said, "College has been easier than being homeschooled."
Some families decide to home school for religious reasons like PC student Molly Gort. Gort was homeschooled until she began
attending at PC. She said her homeschooling system was centered on groups, which she said contradicts the stereotype of homeschoolers being isolated and introverted.
Gort is graduating in June and plans to attend Western Washington University.
Gort said the responsibility for learning and helping the student grow into an adult not only lies on the student but also the parents. "Homeschooling gave me the responsibility to succeed and be my own person," she said.
