The Peninsula College soccer team will start tryouts Aug. 14 and open next year's season with a scrimmage against the University of Victoria. The nine new recruits add strength to the midfield and speed on the outside, said Chapman. Aaron Oppeltz is a 5'11 defender from Roseburg, OR who reads the game very well. Midfielder Aaron Funderbunk is 5'9 also from Roseburg, OR has great speed and can serve fantastic balls from the outside, Chapman said.
Seth O'Banion is another midfielder from Anchorage, AK with quick feet and captain of his high school team. Forward Patrick Wolverton from Anchorage, AK can play the outside mid role and had good speed.
Brent Ricigliano is a 6'0 midfielder from South Kitsap, Port Orchard, WA. He has great vision along with a strong mentality, Chapman said. Another Washington player is Bobby Catania from Kingston, WA. He plays midfield with a great touch on the ball. Rounding out the Alaska players is Lucas Costa from Diamond High School in Anchorage. Costa is a very aggressive defensive midfielder with fast feet, Chapman said.
New recruit Steve Prevost is a transfer player from a community college in Arizona. He plays central defender. Last but not least is Jaime Camarena, a 5'10 midfielder from Wenatchee, WA. Camarena can run on the inside or outside midfield position, Chapman said.
Next year's recruit will join 20 sophomores to defend the 15 consecutive wins and forth straight trip to the playoffs and a fourth place win at the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges.
