In 1982 the Tony Award winner Maury Yeston's (Titanic, 1997) and Arthur Kopit wrote the musical "Nine", based off of a 1963 film 8½ directed by Federico Fellini. The musical "Nine" received Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Revival of a Musical. With the incredible success of the Broadway production director Rob Marshall transformed the original to be viewed through the medium of film, resulting in the Satellite Awards 2009 Best Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical.

"Nine" is the story of director Guido Contini, played by Daniel Day-Lewis, who is struggling to write his ninth and final film. Nearing the age of fifty Continis marriage to Luisa Contini played by Marion Cotillard is falling apart. Luckily Guido has many other women in his life he can turn to including his mistress Carla portrayed by Penélope Cruz, his starring actress Claudia (Nicole Kidman) and the memory of his childhood muse Saraghina (Fergie).

The musical, "Nine", allows the audience to experience the personal dramas of an acclaimed director Contini trying to fulfill his professional obligations and produce a successful movie Italia. The on screen chemistry of the star studded cast made for a very pleasurable movie watching experience.

My absolute favorite part of this movie was the music. I was touched personally by the music in this film. The tunes influenced my mood and helped depict the situations successfully.

Apart from the music, the connection all the actors shared contributed to the flow of the overall plot. It was like everything and everyone just clicked with each other. All the characters seemed that they were naturally interacting with no script.
The downside of this movie was the plot. Although originally done, the plot lacked complexity, and needed something more. Even with the slow plot the phenomenal acting and music made it an overall great experience.

In the end this is still a musical, and no matter how good it is, if you don't like musicals you wont like this one ether. On the other hand if you are a fan of musicals, "Nine" is a sure fire hit.
