Peninsula College had success when the attendance doubled from the previous year at College Goal Sunday on Sunday, January 31. "At least 70 people attended the event, 37 of which received one-on-one help with their FAFSA. This is double the amount of people from last year!", said Krista Francis, Director of Enrollment Services and Financial Aid.
Two people received $500 scholarships but their names have not been released yet. For students looking for further scholarship options, there is a free, web based, non-profit scholarship clearinghouse available to Washington students. Students can go to this website, fill out a student profile and it automatically matches them to the scholarships they qualify for. It is then easier for the students to apply for these scholarships right online. This can be found at WASHBOARD.ORG.
Now is the time to apply for the 2010 fall quarter if you have not yet done so. FA is given on a first come first serve basis and the funds are limited. The priority deadline is May 14. It is best that FAFSA be submitted to the Federal processor at least two months in advance. It is important to have proof of the previous year's income tax return and proof of income documents in order when applying.
Don't forget to check the Peninsula College Foundation online. They raise scholarship money for PC students and will be posting a list of their scholarships along with other community scholarships online by the end of the winter quarter. One application applies to numerous scholarships. The Peninsula College Foundation website is www.pcfoundation.ctc.edu.
