Editors note: On the evening of Tuesday February 9, 2010 Peninsula College President Tom Keegan alerted the campus, through mass email, that he was being considered for the presidency of St. Petersburg College in Florida.

Hello,

I am writing to let you know that I am a finalist for the position of President at St. Petersburg College in St. Petersburg, Florida. On Friday of last week, the presidential search committee recommended four applicants, including me, to the St. Petersburg Board of Trustees for consideration. The Board will meet later this week to consider the committee's recommendations and select the individuals to invite for an interview.

St. Petersburg College presents a unique and appealing career opportunity. The depth and range of its programs and degree options closely parallel my own interests in advancing community college education. The College has nine learning sites, serves more than 65,000 students a year, and consistently ranks among the nation's top 10 community colleges for degrees awarded. It was the first community college in Florida to offer the Baccalaureate Degree and today is one of a handful of the state's newly designated State Colleges.

It has been a very competitive, nationwide recruitment process and I am flattered to be named a finalist. The search process is extensive and will take some time to complete. As this process continues, I ask you to help maintain our focus on teaching and learning. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thank you.
