The clock tower at Peninsula College, located at the top of the D building has become a landmark at our campus. The college uses it as a point of navigation for visitors. The D building is the place that registration, testing, and orientation happens to new students become familiar with that building first. Shouldn't we be introducing new students and visitors to something that actually works?

For the past few months the clock tower has been displaying the incorrect time. When students are arriving at class in the morning its only natural to look up at the clock. It is disappointing to the student body to see that something the college spent so much time on and put so much money into is not fulfilling its purpose. It seems that even before the clock tower was really "broken" it still didn't work properly.

This arises some questions. What else could the money spent on the clock tower gone to fund? It seems at the time the tower project was in planning there were not discussions about upkeep and maintenance. Now, the subject has arisen and there will be more money put into the project.

In each classroom the clocks show a different time as well. The middle, elementary and high schools all link their clocks together and run on the same time schedule. If all these schools have the capability to keep their time straight, why can't PC do the same? There should be no penalties to students who arrive late to classes when the college cannot even provide them with accurate clocks. The money spent on clock tower building and repairs could better benefit the students if they had clocks running in synch with each other.

The good side of this is there is a learning curve for the campus construction where we can learn from our mistakes and oversights and plan accordingly for the future. It seems the plan is that the clock tower will be fixed over the spring break. Lets all hope that when we return for spring quarter we will be seeing time fly.
